MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY é uma campanha para acabar com a pobreza no mundo.
MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY is the big campaign for 2005. The campaign has been launched because over 420 charities, church groups and other organisations (plus a sprinkling of trusty celebs), know that this is the year that world poverty can truly be tackled head on.
Several years ago, global leaders agreed eight goals which would halve world poverty by 2015. All it needed was cash, cooperation and commitment. Sadly rich governments have been lacking in all three. Progress in meeting the goals is slow and the result is that the gap between rich and poor countries is wider than ever. A recent report for the United Nations confirmed that it is still possible to meet the goals if rich countries will get serious about helping poorer nations.
MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY is about turning up the pressure on world leaders to change this situation. We are demanding trade justice, debt cancellation and more and better aid.
